Mount Sinai (Jabal Mousa)

Mount Sinai is known as the place where Moses received the Ten Commandments from God. In fact, the Arabic name Jabal Mousa means “Mount of Moses”.  Although there is little archaeological evidence to support this claim, the mountain is still a popular place of worship.  This is St. Catherine’s Monastery, a Greek Orthodox monastery founded in the 6th century, and is the longest monastery in the world.  It is located in a place called the Burning Bush.  Outside the entrance to the valley, a small town called Al-Minya has grown to accommodate tourists.
