Edinburgh Castle is a world-famous icon of Scotland. This is part of Edinburgh’s World Heritage Site of Old and New Cities. Edinburgh Castle has dominated the skies for centuries, with a mighty castle, the defender of the nation, and the attraction of famous visitors from all over the world.
These most famous Scottish forts have a complex building history. The oldest part, St. Margaret’s Church, dates back to the 12th century. The Great Hall was built around 1510 by James IV. The half moon battery was built by Regent Morton in the late 16th century. The Scottish National War Memorial was erected after World War I.
The palace’s Scottish Crown of Gems, Stones of Destiny, Famous 15th Century Guns, Mons Meg, One O Clock Gun can be found in the National War Museum in Scotland. In addition to the guided tours provided by Castle Trustees, there is also an audio-guided tour available in eight languages. The audio tour takes the visitor around the palace and explains its architecture and dramatic history. A polite vehicle (provided by the Bank of Scotland) can take disabled guests to the top of the palace. Slopes and elevators give access to crowned jewels, stones of destiny, and related exhibits. The walls provide access to the war memorial. For those with poor eyesight, there is a free Braille guide and hand models for crowns with Braille text. Property can be closed for a short period of time without our control due to very adverse weather conditions or other reasons.
