The Hadrian Wall

The Hadrian Wall, 73 miles from shore to shore, was built to protect the northwestern border of the Roman Empire.  Here you can find forts, towers, ruins of cities, and cities that once looked at the wall.  Men, women, and children on the fringes of Roman Britain have the opportunity to discover what life is like, to see rare Roman antiquities, to get their hands on museums, and to enjoy spectacular views of the rugged landscape.
Today you can explore the rich history of the wall and its dramatic landscape.  There are more than 20 attractions to visit, including the Roman fort of Houstead, the Roman fort of Chester, the Roman city of Cobridge, and the Roman fort of Bordeaux.

It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
